We’re the Department of Better Technology, a Knight Foundation-funded startup that’s digging into the guts of government and trying to fix it with technology. Our first product is Screendoor, a data-collection and workflow platform, and we're launching our next major product soon. We're a small team of 4, and we're looking to make it 5 by bringing a designer into the fold. Since this is our first design hire, you would have a wide range of responsibilities, from product design and UX to branding and identity.
On a regular basis, you’ll be designing using the tools of your choice, from wherever you’d like, working whenever you’d like (as long as you meet your milestones). Your office is our chatroom. And the work you’ll do will have meaningful results — we’re building new systems to government that improve the way they deliver services to citizens.
We've been in business for a just under a year, and have already created dozens of success stories -- governments who are using our software to save staff time, save money, and provide better experiences for citizens. We're looking for someone to join our team and help us scale this success to governments across the country.
